Bridging the Digital Divide, Protecting Our Planet

Across the United States, 15 million low-income households still lack access to reliable home internet and computers. For nearly two decades, Compudopt has steadily worked to reduce that number, ensuring youth and families in North Texas are fully equipped to thrive in a rapidly growing digital economy.

Our mission began with a simple belief: every child deserves equal access to education and opportunity. Founded in 2007 by Jonathan Osha, Compudopt was born from a striking observation, most corporate computers are shelved, upgraded, or discarded in under three years. Instead of allowing this high-quality technology to sit in storage or end up in local landfills, he envisioned a circular solution that turns corporate e-waste into life-changing community infrastructure.

A Dual-Impact Model: Digital Equity Meets Environmental Sustainability

Compudopt is uniquely positioned as a dual-benefit social enterprise. We serve as a certified, eco-friendly IT Asset Disposition (ITAD) partner for the corporate sector, providing secure data destruction and electronics recycling. By intercepting these hardware lifecycles, we achieve massive environmental impact—diverting hundreds of thousands of pounds of e-waste from landfills and directly lowering carbon footprints through technology reuse.

We then channel these physical resources straight back into North Texas neighborhoods through a comprehensive, three-tiered approach:

  • Device Access: We sanitize, completely refurbish, and distribute free, high-quality computers to low-income households without home technology, creating permanent tools for learning and employment.

  • Connectivity Solutions: Our teams work directly in the community to help families overcome financial and logistical barriers, navigating and connecting households to free or low-cost high-speed home internet.

  • A Continuum of Digital Education: We host free, age-appropriate educational programs that meet community members where they are—from play-based youth STEAM programs to youth hardware training (Learn2Earn), young adult career certifications (Pathways), and essential digital literacy building for adult learners.

Join Us This North Texas Giving Day

When you support Compudopt on North Texas Giving Day, your investment does twice the good. Every dollar directly fuels local workforce development, supports educational equity for under-resourced students, and keeps toxic electronics out of our ecosystems. Together, we can build a more sustainable planet and ensure no family in North Texas is left behind on the wrong side of the digital divide.
