Community Services, Inc. (CSI) was formed in 1966 in response to the federal administration’s declaration of war on poverty. CSI has been providing services to individuals, families, and the communities it serves for over 55 years. CSI serves a 10-county area with the Community Services Block Grant (CSBG) direct client services program (Anderson, Collin, Denton, Ellis, Henderson, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, Rockwall, and Van Zandt); a 2-county area with Community Transit Services (CTS) (Navarro & Ellis); and a single county area with MAGNET, the home-delivered Meals on Wheels program. Mission

The mission of Community Services, Inc. is to provide support services that empower and enrich individuals, families, and communities directly and through mutual collaborations with community partners leading to self-sufficiency.

Needs

Community Services, Inc. Community Action Agency is a private, non-profit 501(c) (3) tax-exempt organization. As such, all donations to the Agency are tax-exempt.

Without community support, CSI cannot meet the nontraditional needs of the communities we serve due to funder guidelines. In fact, most grants that CSI applies for require a match to demonstrate community support.

While the Agency welcomes in-kind donations at all times, it has a greater need for financial contributions due to its lack of discretionary and unrestricted funds from funders.

Discretionary and unrestricted monies are needed to serve the public interest with much needed activities that may not be allowed through the federal, state or local funding that the Agency receives. For example, individuals and families may be in need of services due to an emergency; however, they may be ineligible because their income exceeds the guidelines for programs that CSI operates. But that doesn’t mean their need isn’t an emergency or as needed as someone who is eligible for services. This is why discretionary monies are so valuable to the Agency; they enable CSI to better meet the needs of the community.

You may specify what you want your donation to be used for a particular program or County. We thank you for your consideration.

Equity Statement

We commit ourselves to the health and well-being of everyone and to problem-solving systems and structures that will dismantle disparities and social determinants.

Almost 56 years ago, Community Action was born as part of the civil rights movement, and we continue to denounce all forms of violence and any acts that dehumanize anyone. The words of the Community Action Promise articulate who we are and what we believe, “We care about the entire community”. And, in love and unity, we will interrupt the darkness of this time and will continue to “embody the spirit of hope”.

Community Action Promise: Community Action changes people’s lives, embodies the spirit of hope, improves communities, and makes America a better place to live. We care about the entire community and we are dedicated to helping people help themselves and each other.
