The Mission of Christ Child Society Dallas-Fort Worth (CCS) is to improve the lives of children through literacy promotion, child and family empowerment, basic needs provision, and community service. Founded in 2018 and serving Denton, Tarrant, and Dallas Counties, our dedicated volunteers made a positive impact on the lives of nearly 4,000 children in 2024.
Literacy, especially early literacy, is the foundation of education, vital in the struggle out of poverty, and key to a child’s future success. CCS’ Literacy Programs are designed to instill excitement about reading and encourage parent-child bonding with the ultimate goal of each child having their own personal library. Through our partnerships with local schools and other non-profit agencies, we provide free book fairs, host fun and educational family engagement events, serve as tutors and mentors, create early literacy bags, and offer after-school reading clubs.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about 10 million children in the United States – 14% of all children – live in families with incomes below the federal poverty threshold. Our Basic Needs and Community Services Programs provide essential items to children and families living in vulnerable conditions to meet not only their critical needs but to also give them a sense of dignity and worth. We provide hygiene kits with essential items for local school children, teen bags and snack bags for PediPlace patients, and layettes (baby shower in a bag) for PediPlace, John Peter Smith Foundation, and Catholic Charities Gabriel Project. Our volunteers also create fun activity packets and pass out meals for Christian Community Action’s Kids Eat Free summer program.
Community needs go beyond just basic needs. Our Community Services Programs address additional local needs, are integral to building strong communities, and help families experience resiliency and self-sufficiency. We provide blessing bags filled with hygiene and household items to families experiencing financial hardship that are served through St. Philip’s St. Vincent de Paul Society. We assemble and provide comfort bags for children removed from their homes and placed in foster care, and to help them feel accepted and connected, we provide bags filled with school spirit items and supplies for students who are new to this country.
In 2024, our compassionate members, all of whom are volunteers, provided over 3,500 free books to children from impoverished families as well as:
In addition to monetary donations, the following items are needed and will be distributed to children and families in need in our local community:
