Child Study Center Cook Children's (CSC) provides children with complex developmental and behavioral disabilities the highest quality diagnosis, treatment, and education, to help them achieve their full potential. Developmental and behavioral challenges are frequently multi-dimensional. At Child Study Center, not only do we understand that, we embrace it.

"Child Study Center and Jane Justin School (JJS) are life-changing. They have been a light in our lives. Since we’ve started the behavior program, he’s shown so much progress. It’s a night and day difference. He didn’t talk, and he didn’t eat solid foods. He’s done all of that and more, and he’s doing great academically at JJS.” - Jessica, mom to Eric, a Jane Justin School student

Mission

For over 50 years, Child Study Center at Cook Children's (CSC) has provided children with developmental and behavioral challenges with diagnoses, treatment and education. CSC strives to help every child achieve their full potential. We embrace the fact that these challenges are frequently multi-dimensional, and believe that there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Our center houses four key departments and programs: autism services, psychology, developmental pediatrics and the Jane Justin School. By focusing on a child in the context of his or her complete environment, CSC specialists work closely with parents using evidenced based, scientifically validated methods to bring a child's full potential to light. For some kids, a milestone may be saying "I love you" to a parent for the first time, or being able to visit the grocery store without any distress.

Needs

Although CSC sees over 2,500 patients each year and enrolls around 80 students in JJS, the need for services far exceeds our availability. Approximately 17,000 children in our primary service area would benefit from treatment at CSC or education at JJS. Due to the rarity of services for these children, our programs are critical to many families from low-income households.

A gift to the Jane Justin School Scholarship Fund will provide children with the life skills and knowledge necessary to help them become happy and productive adults.

Equity Statement

At Cook Children's, diversity, equity and inclusion are more than mere words, they are the core of who we are. We celebrate qualities that make each person unique, and embrace all people regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identification, sexual orientation, disabilities, religious practices, or socioeconomic status. We are also working every day to ensure that we are creating equitable opportunities for our current and future staff members. As a pediatric health care system, we're also committed to initiatives that strive for health equity for all children and their families. Improving the lives of every child through the prevention and treatment of illness, disease and injury.

Racism and prejudices of any kind are social determinants to health with impacts that can last throughout the person's lifetime and harms our community and the families we care for on a daily basis. We strongly encourage tolerance and understanding for all, and we understand the importance of moving forward in a spirit of love and community.
