Camp Clover is a specialized summer day camp. We are bridging the educational gap that summer often brings and filling a social gap in the summer camp options for many of our campers. We focus on therapy and foundational literacy enrichment activities with a station-style approach. Each camper is paired with at least one other camper who is working toward similar goals and at least one volunteer who encourages and facilitates the activities. Each group of campers rotates through four stations, participating in occupational, physical and speech therapy enrichment activities provided by local, licensed therapists from Joyful Noise Speech Therapy and AL-Inclusive Therapy Services and a foundational literacy station led by a master special education teacher. We break midmorning for snack. Music therapy is provided by Wildflower Music Therapy. We intentionally incorporate therapy goals and practice social skills in all station work, open play during morning drop off, snack time, and music.
2023: We served 12 campers with three providers, two teachers, and two volunteers over the course of the summer.
2024: We served 23 campers with six providers, two teachers, and seven volunteers over the course of the summer.
2025: We served 30 campers with eight providers, two teachers, and 28 volunteers over the course of the summer.
This growth has been entirely organic and truly shows the need for meaningful summer activities for children with special needs in our community. The need is great. The time is now.
Camp Clover is dedicated to providing a specialized summer day camp experience. We are bridging the educational + therapy services gap that summer often brings and filling a social gap in the summer camp options for many of our campers. Our mission is grounded in growth, belonging and fun.
Through our partnership with dynamic therapists and teachers, campers engage in enrichment activities that address the whole camper. We track each camper's progress in the areas of physical, occupational and speech therapies, and foundational literacy and social skills.
We do not adapt or modify for our campers to merely fit in; it is designed specifically for each of them--a space where they belong, are warmly welcomed and celebrated. But, the sense of belonging doesn't stop there; we are a community for families to feel seen, supported and encouraged.
We believe in the transformative power of a good time! We truly take to heart the "work hard, play harder" mentality. We know that therapy is hard work for our campers, so we ensure that their camp experience is play-based and exciting.
*Paid Counselor Positions*
Our campers get the most benefit from enrichment activities when the ratio of providers and counselors to campers is as close to 1:1 as possible. We would love to raise funding to staff 12-15 paid counselor positions for next summer. By having these paid counselor positions, we hope to provide our campers with consistent, familiar faces over the course of the summer and recognize the importance of the counselor role in our mission.
*Sensory Equipment & Tools*
As our camper count has grown, the range of abilities and needs has too. We would love to purchase sensory equipment and tools, such as a bean bag/crash pad and small trampoline, for our campers who need support with regulation.
*iPads for Goal Tracking*
Our growth has also shown a need for tracking each camper's therapy goals more efficiently. Currently, our therapists monitor each camper's progress through handwritten notes at the end of each session. iPads that travel with each camper group throughout the day would allow for more efficient goal tracking and not waste precious camp time.
