$5,000 Goal

BWISE was founded in 2018 by 5 Black women who attended Texas Woman's University who have earned their Doctorate in Nursing Practice.

By adopting a “trickle down” mentorship model, BWISE includes women in all stages of life. The professional core includes women who are currently working within their specialty who have a passion for pouring into our youth. We are in need of all types of professionals! The professional core will mentor young women in college who are seeking to one day function successfully within a specific field. For example, an aspiring teacher will be paired with a teacher who is actively working in and navigating that particular environment. The mentors will guide and mold these young students and equip them for a pathway to success prior to and after graduation. It is our hope that young women who might not have a friend or family member who have walked such academic paths, will find that the mentors serve as the missing shoulders to stand on.

Our college students involved in BWISE and or receiving mentorship from the professional core will be required to return the efforts by mentoring a high school student. For example, a practicing lawyer will mentor a pre law college student who will in turn mentor a high school student who dreams of becoming a lawyer. The college student will help to ensure the high schooler has all of the information necessary to appear as an attractive candidate to college programs.

Giving Activity

Needs

Your donation to BWISE will help support our following efforts:

Teacher Appreciation

May is recognized as Teacher Appreciation Month, we invite the community to share with us about an outstanding teacher and from the nominations received, we select one teacher to recognize and provide them a gift.

Scholarship

In June, BWISE has a Scholarship Awards Brunch where we provide two Traditional Scholarships (one to a African American High School Senior female and to an African American female attending a college or university).

This year, we provided the first Dr. Whitney Kirkpatrick Nursing Scholarship, in honor and memory of the late Whitney Kirkpatrick who was a Co-Founder of BWISE and served as the first President.

School Supplies

Every August we provide school supplies as we partner with another organization or school to ensure our current learners/future leaders are prepared for each school year.

Adopt-A-Family Giveaway

We recognize December as a season of giving and we give back to the community by providing laptops to ensure our current learners are equipped and successful in education.
