Beacon Center Needs
Every year in Texas, hundreds of foster teens turn 18 and age out of care without family, stable housing, or consistent support. Many of these young adults immediately face homelessness, unemployment, exploitation, or incarceration. In Dallas alone, there is a growing waitlist of youth in need of safe housing and supportive services, with Beacon Center currently carrying a waitlist of 15 youth.
Beacon Center meets this need by operating seven homes dedicated to homeless foster teens and young adults. Yet the demand for housing, life skills training, counseling, and transitional support far exceeds our capacity. The need is not just for beds but for comprehensive wraparound services that ensure stability, healing, and long-term self-sufficiency.
To continue meeting this urgent need, Beacon requires:
Sustainable funding to operate and expand transitional housing.
Increased staffing and training to serve youth with complex trauma and behavioral health needs.
Life skills and employment resources to prepare youth for independent living.
Transportation support so youth can access school, jobs, and healthcare.
Mental health and counseling services to address trauma and promote healing.
Without immediate investment, too many foster youth will remain at risk of homelessness, trafficking, or re-entering unstable systems. With support, Beacon can expand its proven model of housing, healing, and empowerment to ensure every young adult leaving foster care has a safe place to call home and a future filled with opportunity.
