Who is BUiLT?

BUiLT is a dynamic and mission-driven 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for the inclusion, advancement, and empowerment of technologists across North Texas. Founded with a vision to address the systemic underrepresentation of Black professionals in the technology sector, BUiLT (Blacks United in Leading Technology) has become a powerful force for change, equity, and innovation within the tech industry.

At the heart of BUiLT’s mission is a commitment to increasing the representation and active participation of Black individuals in all areas of technology—from software engineering and data science to cybersecurity, product management, and executive leadership. The organization recognizes that diversity in tech is not just a moral imperative but a strategic advantage that drives creativity, problem-solving, and business success. By fostering an inclusive environment where Black technologists can thrive, BUiLT aims to reshape the landscape of the tech industry and ensure that it reflects the rich diversity of the communities it serves.

A Community: We pride ourselves with our little “i" and our large “U”. At BUiLT, our work is not about individual recognition—it’s about collective impact. We believe in the power of unity and collaboration, echoing the sentiment that there is no “I” in team. We proudly stand alongside other organizations and allies committed to addressing the complex and uniquely American challenge of race relations, particularly as it manifests within the technology sector. Together, we strive to create lasting change.

North Texas Presence: BUiLT drives meaningful change by empowering local teams to design and implement programs tailored to the unique needs of their communities. We believe that local leadership is best positioned to understand and serve their regions effectively. To support this approach, BUiLT operates through member-led chapters, organized by city, that govern trainings and oversee program delivery. These members play a central role in shaping and evaluating our offerings, ensuring that our initiatives remain relevant, impactful, and community-driven.

Who & What Your Donations Support

BUiLT achieves its mission through a series of strategic initiatives that focus on three core pillars: connection, professional development, and employment. These pillars serve as the foundation for a wide range of programs, events, and resources designed to support members at every stage of their careers.

Connection is central to BUiLT’s approach. The org.  provides a vibrant and supportive community where Black technologists can network, collaborate, and share experiences. Through local chapters, virtual meetups, and national conferences, BUiLT creates spaces for meaningful engagement and relationship-building. These connections not only foster a sense of belonging but also open doors to mentorship, partnerships, and career opportunities. Professional development is a key focus area. BUiLT offers a variety of educational resources & training programs aimed at helping members enhance their skills, stay current with industry trends, and achieve their career goals. From coding bootcamps & certification courses to leadership workshops and speaker series, BUiLT equips its members with the tools they need to succeed in a competitive & rapidly evolving field. The organization also partners with leading tech companies & academic institutions to provide access to cutting-edge learning opportunities & thought leadership. Employment is the third pillar of BUiLT’s strategy. Recognizing the barriers that often prevent Black professionals from accessing high-quality job opportunities in tech, BUiLT works to bridge the gap between talent and employers. The organization maintains a robust job board, facilitates recruitment events, and collaborates with corporate partners to promote inclusive hiring practices. By advocating for equitable access to employment and advancement, BUiLT helps its members secure meaningful roles and build long-term careers in technology.

We're on a Mission!
