ABOUT AURORA

AURORA is a public arts organization based in Dallas, dedicated to inspiring a more accessible future of art and technology by connecting diverse communities through transformative public art experiences.

Since its formation in 2010, AURORA has aimed to create free, innovative, technology-based art exhibitions, turning North Texas into a global cultural destination. This public arts organization takes the lead in supporting the artists of tomorrow by commissioning compelling installations and educating the public about the collision of art technology, which brings unlimited creative possibilities in the form of New Media Art. Today, AURORA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that presents boundary-pushing cultural experiences year-round, bringing new and relevant forms of art to diverse audiences beyond the walls of cultural institutions.

AURORA's year-round programming— Art Quest and Video Art Nights—focus on creating access to art and culture.

Art Quest gifts $10,000 in art annually to underserved Dallas communities with limited access to culture and technology. This program seeks to bridge the digital divide and eliminate barriers to art and technology. By collaborating with long-standing nonprofits, we ensure that our programming meets local linguistic and cultural needs, developing a scalable model to enhance access.

Free and open to the public, VAN redefines artistic presentation, providing increased accessibility and fostering a deeper comprehension of the intersection between art, technology, community, and the urban landscape. Echoing AURORA’s mission, it aims to inspire a more accessible and inclusive future of art and technology by supporting the voices of today’s artists and connecting diverse communities through transformative public art experiences.

The AURORA Biennial—the largest free event of its kind in North America—is our signature exhibition of technology-driven public art and has been central to our arts organization over the last decade. Aligning with our mission, the biennial aims to inspire a more accessible future of art and technology by supporting the voices of today’s artists and connecting diverse communities through transformative public art experiences.

Mission

Our mission inspires a more accessible future for art and technology by supporting the voices of today’s artists, while connecting diverse communities through transformative public art experiences.

Needs

Join us in funding the future. Keep AURORA FREE and open to the public! Your donations allow us to continue curating high quality contemporary art with a range of perspectives, from North Texas and around the globe, and aligning it with innovation and the mobility of technology-based art, connecting artists to the communities in need.

Our Needs:

- Support us in creating unique and inclusive cultural experiences for people of all ages and backgrounds that will always be FREE and accessible to all.

- Help us commission living, local artists, working in innovative mediums, through equitable and accessible programming that enables everyone to participate and benefit from our initiatives.

- Contribute to covering essential operating expenses to ensure the sustainability of AURORA's mission.

Equity Statement

Accessibility and inclusivity are at the core of our mission, guiding how we serve and the reasons behind them. The first AURORA program in 2010 was created so the arts could be more accessible to wider audiences in Dallas. In 2020, AURORA began transcending community boundaries, uniting our programming for the entire region. Today, all of our events remain free and inclusive to all.

AURORA bridges the digital divide by using technology to dismantle barriers that prevent disinvested communities from accessing art and culture. From our inception, we’ve strived to be a beacon of inclusion and representation in North Texas. In recent years, we’ve deepened our commitment to amplifying diverse voices by reflecting this commitment in our artist and curator selections and the locations for smaller programs. Our board members were carefully chosen not only for expertise but also to ensure diverse perspectives are represented in our organization and programming.
