Arlington Texas Mayor's Committee on People with Disabilities

A nonprofit organization

We believe that the Americans with Disabilities Act sets a minimum standard for accessibility and that a proactive approach is better than a reactive approach. Each year we focus on a project to bring more awareness of the needs of the disability community to Arlington. For example, we recently completed a survey of Arlington Public Libraries to determine whether their features were accessible for various disabilities. As a result, the library made improvements. In a prior year, we focused on Arlington hotels. This year we are focused on Arlington Parks.

Our Needs

The Mayor's Committee on People with Disabilities is dedicated to awareness, concern, communication, encouragement, service and support. We hold monthly informative meetings regarding educational support, community planning, emergency management, available services and accessibility awareness. We would like funding to host a collaborative event for all non-profits serving people with disabilities in our community. Future plans and goals are as broad as our community's diverse needs. Every year we sponsor a day of activities for the Journey of Hope as it travels through Arlington.

Mission

We are an organization of citizen volunteers dedicated to helping Arlington become fully accessible for all people with disabilities.
