Our goal for North Texas Giving Day is to raise $1,500 to support literacy, ESL, and digital skills programs for seniors and adults in low-income communities. Although this is our first year participating, our needs are real, immediate, and deeply impactful.
Every week, 3 Leaf Literacy Leadership & Learning Institute provides education and support to individuals who are often overlooked—seniors who feel left behind by technology, adults who are learning English for the first time, and community members who struggle with reading or accessing essential services. Your donation helps us continue offering free programs that open doors to independence, confidence, and opportunity.
How Your Gift Will Be Used
1. Literacy & ESL Materials for Adult Learners. Many of our adult learners are beginning at the most basic reading levels. Funding will provide workbooks, leveled readers, vocabulary materials, writing supplies, printing, and classroom tools to help them grow at their own pace.
2. Digital Literacy Tools for Seniors. Seniors often struggle with everyday technology tasks: sending emails, accessing medical portals, avoiding scams, and staying connected with loved ones. Donations will help us provide step-by-step guides, printed worksheets, teaching tools, and basic tech items needed for hands-on practice.
3. Outreach to Senior Living Communities. We travel to senior apartment complexes and community centers to reach learners who have no transportation. Your support helps us continue this outreach by covering mileage, teaching materials, and the cost of bringing lessons directly to seniors who need them most.
4. Snacks and Comfort Items for Classes. Many seniors and adults attend class hungry or without essentials. Donations allow us to offer snacks, hygiene items, water, and small comforts that help learners feel cared for and respected.
5. Operational Support for Free Classes. Your gift helps cover printing costs, materials for demonstrations, classroom supplies, and the basic expenses required to keep our free programs running.
Why This Work Matters
Our students include seniors trying to stay connected to the modern world and adults who are working courageously to read, write, or speak English for the first time. Many come from communities affected by poverty, limited education, or isolation. When they succeed, their entire families benefit.
One example is Mehbuba, an ESL student who could barely read English when we began working together. Today, she has a job at Walmart, became a U.S. citizen, attends Ogle Beauty School, and will soon take her licensing exam to open her own salon again. Her journey represents the life-changing impact your gift makes possible.
Your Support Makes the Difference
Every dollar helps us continue this mission. Whether you give $10 or $100, your generosity helps seniors and adults gain skills they once believed were out of reach. Together, we can support dignity, independence, and lifelong learning for those who need it most.
