1886 Global Health Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working to close preventable health gaps for families across North Texas.
We believe health begins long before someone enters a clinic. It is shaped by access to nutritious food, safe and supported pregnancies, healthy childhood development, emotional well-being, economic opportunity, and whether families can access the resources they need to thrive.
Our work is informed by six interconnected pillars: Early Childhood Care and Education, Maternal and Infant Health, Food Security and Agriculture, Workforce Development and Economic Mobility, Racial Equity and Community Healing, and Mental Health and Emotional Wellness.
In North Texas, Maternal and Infant Health is our flagship focus.
We are working to strengthen the support available to mothers and babies during pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum recovery, and early infancy by connecting families with essential resources, health education, community services, and trusted referral pathways.
Founded by Dr. Nesha Abass and based in the Dallas area, 1886 Global Health Foundation serves communities across Collin, Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant counties. We focus on prevention and early support, helping address barriers before they become lasting health disparities.
1886 Global Health Foundation's mission is to improve maternal and infant health outcomes across North Texas by helping mothers and families overcome barriers to essential resources, health education, community support, and trusted services throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and early infancy.
We work upstream, focusing on prevention and early support before gaps become crises. Through practical resources, maternal and infant health education, resource navigation, trusted referrals, community partnerships, and family-centered support, we help strengthen the network of care surrounding mothers and babies.

This North Texas Giving Day, 1886 Global Health Foundation is raising $15,000 to expand maternal and infant health support for mothers, babies, and families across North Texas.
Our goal goes beyond distributing supplies.
We are building a community-centered maternal and infant health initiative designed to help bridge the gap between healthcare and the everyday realities families experience during pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum recovery, and early infancy.
Texas families continue to experience significant maternal health disparities, and barriers to resources, education, nutrition, emotional wellness support, and community services can make pregnancy and postpartum recovery even more challenging.

Health equity is central to our maternal and infant health work because families do not experience pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum recovery, and early infancy with equal access to resources and support. Barriers such as economic hardship, food insecurity, limited access to healthcare and reliable health information, transportation challenges, and gaps in community support can contribute to preventable differences in maternal and infant health outcomes.
We work to reduce these barriers by connecting North Texas mothers and families with essential resources, health education, community-based support, trusted referrals, and services that promote healthier pregnancies, postpartum experiences, and early beginnings for babies.
