$20,000 Goal

Open Arms Health Clinic (OAHC) offers free health-related services to more than 4,000 low-income workers annually in our local community. All are uninsured or underinsured. More than 85% have chronic diseases requiring ongoing care, such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease or asthma. Most have little to no savings, work low-paying jobs, or have recently lost jobs and are not eligible for government assistance. Without our clinic, many would seek help in local emergency rooms or put off care, a high-risk choice for those with chronic conditions.

Each year, OAHC provides more than 4,000 patient visits through a volunteer staff of 60+ medical professionals and others. A 501(C)(3) nonprofit funded by private grants and donations, clinic services include non-emergency acute and chronic general healthcare, social services, counseling, chronic health education, physical therapy, GYN, orthopedics, podiatry and dermatology.

But health is more than medical care. For most low-income patients, barriers to wellness (unstable housing, low income, unsafe neighborhoods, or substandard education) greatly impact their chronic health conditions. Our holistic health approach addresses these needs by helping connect them to other services we offer and those provided by others in our area.

Our data shows improved health numbers year after year in 80-90% of chronically ill patients who come through our doors. By helping patients gain long-term control of their health, we help improve the lives of family members in their care and our community as a whole. Past patients report reduced ER visits, better employment opportunities and happier lives.

Giving Activity

Mission

To provide free, quality, compassionate healthcare to individuals and families of North Texas dealing with chronic and non-emergency acute illnesses, who have barriers to accessing healthcare, by promoting wellness and providing physical, emotional, and spiritual care in a loving, nurturing environment.

Needs

Your 2023 Giving Day donation will help fund these needs:

COUNSELOR TRAINING PROGRAM: Our counseling program for LMSW counselors offers board-approved supervision, advanced training, and application and licensing fees in exchange for patient counseling services. Your donation supports essential mental healthcare for our patients and multiplies our community's LCSW certified counselors - $12,000

DIABETIC SUPPLIES: Diabetes is a growing epidemic in our community. OAHC offers a holistic program to help diabetics understand and manage their chronic diseases through self-monitoring and lifestyle changes. We are requesting funds for essential diabetic supply kits for our growing number of diabetic patients. - $6,000

Equity Statement

We have seen how a lack of healthcare can devastate peoples’ lives. We believe every person - no matter their income, race, gender, education level or citizenship status - deserves compassionate, quality healthcare. Our clinic was created by religious healthcare professionals to provide free health-related services to neighbors in need in our community - without questions or exceptions.

Our holistic health approach respects differences of culture and language. We also recognize how barriers such as unstable housing, low income, unsafe neighborhoods, and substandard education impact a patient’s long-term health. Our goal is to help patients overcome some of these inequities, including access to care, so they may live happier, healthier lives.

We strive to be agents of change, providing a lifeline and a path forward to those in need. Our volunteer staff of 60+ medical professionals and others help patients gain control of their own health through medical and specialist care, health education, counseling and social services. Our sole limitation is the number of providers willing to open their arms to the many more needing our care.
