$2,000 Goal

Due to Covid19, our library hours and staffing were cut. We pivoted to providing information on our website.  Our website offers information on over 2,800 authors including their biographies, list of published books and Youtube interviews where available.   It also includes links to book festivals and library programs which are available online in Dallas and around the world.

While library services have not been fully restored, the Oak Lawn Library Friends funded to purchase $700 worth of LGBTQ books and a annaul subscription to to Book Pages with 100 copies delivered to the library each month at a cost of ($650 per year). We have also funded some adult programming now that the library has begun adding in person programming.

Our Needs

Our branch support group raises funds for the Oak Lawn Library, which is a branch of the Dallas Public Library. We serve a diverse community of recent immigrants, LGBTQ youth and seniors, homeless persons, artists & a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood. We need funding to improve programming for adults and LGBTQ youth and adults. We will be asking to the city of Dallas to restore library hours and staffing when the next city budget is presented in August.

Mission

To promote greater awareness of and assistance to the Oak Lawn Branch of the Dallas Public Library as a community educational, cultural and activity center which fulfills unique neighborhood needs.

Needs

We always need funds to support our library. We spent $600 in the past year on LGBTQ books, almost $750 on a subscription to 100 monthly copies of BookPage. BookPage provides information on the latest new books in all forms. We fund our website, which costs $200, that has 3,500 author pages and information on books, book festivals and library programs. As the library resumes in person programming, we are funding new gardening programs for all ages. We work closely with library staff to supplement what the city of Dallas funds.

Equity Statement

We try and ensure we serve all segments of the community our library. We fund programs for all ages from the youngest child to the oldest senior citizen.
