Mission

The Mental Health Veterans Advocacy Council (MHVAC) is a 501(c)(19) Veterans Organization established and run by Veterans. Although independent of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), we have a reliable line of communication through our strong liaison with the local Dallas VA Medical Center, its mental health professions and other officials. Indeed, our success depends in large part on how well we collaborate with mental health and medical center leadership. However, we can not over emphasize enough that we are an independent entity, not the VA; we do not speak for the VA nor do we provide mental or medical treatment or advice of any kind.

We have a strong commitment to our mission to establish a true partnership between Veterans and their families, VA mental health professionals, community partners and Veteran service organizations in order to make valuable contributions to and have a positive impact on the quality of VA mental health services.

In the pursuit of our goals, we adopt the recovery-oriented philosophy that includes the values of:

Respect

Hope

Dignity

Responsibility

Equality

Trust

Empowerment

Self-determination
