About NICA
Located near Fort Worth’s historic Stockyards, NICA was established in 1969 to help serve our community by providing food, clothing, and self-help programs to families in the North side of Fort Worth and surrounding communities.
While the most pressing needs are met through our direct aid programs, our vision is to help families physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually.
Providing a hand-up and not just a handout is never our intention. Long-term goals are designed and met through case management, crisis counseling, employment, education, and community services. Our aim is to aid and empower people by either providing or linking them to opportunities that will assist them in getting back on their feet, strengthen their families, and ultimately strengthen their neighborhoods.
What We Do
The mission of NICA is to break the cycle of hunger and poverty by helping people in need of help themselves and their neighbors. NICA's emergency services address short-term needs while educational programs, mentoring and training provide hope and pathway for families to break free of poverty's grasp. Programming also promotes self-reliance and encourages clients and family members to make learning a priority and to work toward financial stability. The goals of NICA programs and services include: *Reduce poverty and homelessness by helping clients identify their personal goals and design steps to achieve them. *Mentor at-risk youth and help them access higher education. *Inspire and motivate adults and youth to make positive changes in their lives. *Connect clients with resources and services to meet their needs. *Provide program to help seniors and the disabled stay in their homes as long as possible avoiding a costly and traumatic move to assisted living or a nursing home.
NICA provides educational programs and mentors historically underserved youth in addition to emergency help and professional social work services for low-income individuals, families, youth, homeless, elderly, and disabled clients. Our direct-aid programs, which are designed to meet the urgent needs of each client, such as food, clothing, and some emergency financial assistance, meet pressing community needs.
