Methodist Justice Ministry (MJM) is a non-profit family law organization that advocates for vulnerable community members impacted by family violence in Tarrant and Johnson County. Since being established in 2006, MJM has provided free legal representation and ongoing support to over 3,000 individuals in crisis. By ensuring that the children are with a caring and protective caregiver, MJM helps break cycles of abuse and improve outcomes for both the individual and the community.
Without court orders and a support network, victims of domestic violence often feel trapped and remain in abusive homes. Innocent children are often the victims of abuse as well. In the case of child abuse by a parent, protective caregivers need legal rights to keep the children safe from dangerous situations. The CDC reports indicate that children from families with low socioeconomic status are five times more likely to experience abuse or neglect in their lives. These children are at a higher risk for falling into patterns of abusive relationships, failing to graduate, and experiencing drug and alcohol abuse, and depression. They are also about nine times more likely to become involved in criminal activity that continues into adulthood. Our services are designed to help children heal in a safe environment, breaking patterns of abuse, and offering hope for the future.
The cases that MJM takes are often complex and require tremendous preparation. Each suit can last from a couple of months to years as the MJM team seeks final resolutions reflecting the best interests of the victims and children involved. Paired with legal expertise, MJM offers individualized support services including counseling, emergency financial assistance (Safe Home Program), and a support network. We hope that you will consider supporting our life-changing mission!
