Metropolitan Arts Media

A nonprofit organization

Arts Journalism is vital to the arts ecosystem.

For nearly a decade we have dedicated ourselves to providing relevant, engaging and authoritative arts journalism. Our coverage has included many arts disciplines, all budget and
audience sizes, and crossed racial, cultural and social boundaries. We educate the community about the robust arts scene, from the established to the emerging. Art that not only happens in the grand halls in the city centers, but also in the diverse neighborhoods and unexplored districts in our entire coverage area. A coverage area that stretches from Denton to Desoto, Granbury to McKinney, Rockwall to Weatherford -- an area roughly the size of the state of Connecticut.

Metropolitan Arts Media is vital to arts journalism.

Metropolitan Arts Media exists first and foremost to create and distribute journalistic media concerned with the reporting and discussion of the arts and artists. This includes, but is not limited to, theater, dance, classical music and opera, comedy, and the visual and literary arts. We advocate for the promotion, growth and development of our arts community, individual artists and arts organizations in the North Texas region. We have brought our community and its artist into the national and international arts conversation. We have accomplished this with insightful features, fascinating interviews, thoughtful analysis, news and investigative reporting, and captivating highlights of the art being created for stages, exhibition spaces and other venues.

Arts coverage in the daily newspapers and mainstream media has decreased in the past decade -- with an accelerating decline in the past two years largely due to the new realities of
digital metrics, advertising revenue imperatives and click quotas. Although we are subject to those same realities, we have remained steadfast in our dedication to arts journalism. We have extended our reach and increased our readership. We have continued to advocate for both the established and emerging artists and organizations. We report and promote everything our shoestring budget has allowed, from multi-million dollar opera productions to no-budget immersive theater in unconventional locations.

Our Needs

We are seeking funds to continue to keep arts journalism alive and well in North Texas.

Mission

Metropolitan Arts Media strives to spotlight the full spectrum of the diverse North Texas Performing and Visual Arts with intelligent and accessible arts journalism.
