Who We Are and What Do

"What I believe is not what I say I believe; what I believe is what I do." ~ Donald Miller

The Big Picture

Loving Community wants to be an inclusive, gospel-centered community of lovers of Jesus Christ who connect people to God, grow together, serve the community, and extend God's kingdom.

The Mission and Structure

Loving Community is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) public charity. We are incorporated in the State of Texas and identify as a non-profit, faith based, community organization. Our mission is "to be good neighbors by connecting people into relationships and serving the needs of our community."

Loving Community is not a church. However, we do partner with a diversity of churches, faith communities, non-profits, businesses, and government organizations to serve the needs of our community.

We view our work through the lens of mission. We resonate with the words of missiologist David Bosch who wrote, "Mission is more and different from recruitment to our brand of religion; it is the alerting of people to the universal reign of God through Christ." We see mission as both the announcement and the demonstration of the reign of God through Christ.

We believe orthodoxy (right belief) and orthopraxy (right practice) are valuable and important.

Who we are and what we do

Who we are:

Inclusive: We are a multi-ethnic, multi-socioeconomic Christian faith-based community organization. We welcome everyone without judgment. We are a "come-as-you-are" faith-based community organization.

Gospel-Centered: Our salvation, worth, and identity come by grace (an undeserved gift) by faith in Christ, and not by our own performance.  We live as children of God, unconditionally accepted and loved, and not as those who live in fear, trying to earn our way to God's blessings. This is at the heart of who we are.

Community: We are a community who cares for and is vulnerable and accepting of one another even if we are messed up, different, poor, rich, average, arrogant, timid, a sinner. We mourn with those who mourn and rejoice with those who rejoice. We are emotionally and intellectually honest with God and one another.

Lovers of Jesus Christ: We love God, and seek an intimate relationship with Him, which is made possible by what Jesus has done on the cross. We seek Him primarily for the pleasure of His company, and not just for what He can bless us with or what we think we can do for Him.
