$10,000 Goal

The education of the mother and the presence of books in the home are the two most important factors in a child's academic success. Literacy Connexus addresses both through classes in adult literacy and language acquisition as well as providing access to books for children. We focus on helping churches help persons with literacy needs and thus multiply the impact of strategies for supporting literacy.

Mission

Literacy Connexus helps churches help people with literacy needs. We provide weekend workshops to prepare volunteers to teach English as a Second Language to adults. We help prepare refugee children succeed in the American school system (Ready for School!). During the summer months, we connect church and community volunteers with meals programs to encourage children to keep reading year round (What's for Lunch?).

Equity Statement

Through its programs, Literacy Connexus seeks to address racial inequities in educational access and attainment. We provide

services to persons in poverty with the intent of remediating poverty that too often has been caused and affected by racial

prejudice. We focus on strategies that will lead to success on the part of persons who have been slighted by corrupt systems.
