The Kathlyn Joy Gilliam Museum is housed in the actual home of the late Kathlyn Joy Gilliam which has been designated a City of Dallas historical landmark. The Museum honors the legacy of Mrs. Gilliam who was one of Dallas' greatest, most courageous civil rights leaders and a champion for boys and girls. She fought and won many battles that literally changed not only Dallas, but the entire nation in the areas of education, justice and political empowerment for African-Americans. The Museum shares Mrs. Gilliam's vision of educating the community by providing a safe environment and educational programs for adults and children. Mrs. Gilliam fought fearlessly to shape a better and brighter future for generations of youth and was a champion for both civil rights and education who represented the South Dallas community with dignity and pride. The Museum displays her awards, books, writings and photos, while also serving the community as a learning center. The Kathlyn Joy Gilliam Museum serves as a tribute to an icon who helped make a difference in many lives.
Our Needs
Help Us Send Our Debate Team to Atlanta!
The Kathlyn Joy Gilliam Museum is more than a historical landmark—it’s a living legacy of one of Dallas’ most courageous civil rights leaders. Mrs. Gilliam fought tirelessly for education, justice, and opportunity, and today we honor her vision by empowering the next generation of leaders.
This North Texas Giving Day, our goal is to raise $10,000 to support our incredible Debate Team as they travel to Atlanta. These funds will cover airfare, hotel, meals, and other essentials—ensuring that cost is never a barrier for our students to compete, learn, and grow. When you give, you’re not just funding a trip. You’re investing in confidence, critical thinking, and the voices of young people who will shape the future—just as Mrs. Gilliam did.
