The Jesuit Dallas Museum (JDM) is more than just a center for innovative visual arts and cultural exchange. The mission of the JDM is to enhance the educational experience of the Jesuit Dallas community, and every day, the Museum's broad collection of world-class art offers unique and creative opportunities for reinforcing classroom concepts and an awareness, appreciation, and passion for art.
The Museum's primary purpose is to inspire the students of Jesuit Dallas, yet alumni, student families, friends, and the greater Dallas art community benefit from its unique and expansive collection, which includes more than 600 pieces of art spanning 2,000 years. Prior to the current global health crisis, the JDM conducted more than 50 public tours and welcomed nearly 2,500 guests annually to the Jesuit Dallas campus. In addition, nearly 60 specialized tours were conducted with Jesuit classes, as faculty have embraced opportunities for incorporating the collection into the curriculum.
Other organizations also benefit from the JDM's vast and distinctive collection, which includes numerous works by internationally celebrated artists spanning five continents and over 25 countries. In addition to maintaining a longstanding relationship with The Perot Museum of Nature and Science, pieces from the collection have been placed on loan for exhibitions in museums throughout Texas.
Through the vision of its founders and Board of Trustees, the Jesuit Dallas Museum serves as a hallmark for the community it was designed to support. As the result of gifts and thoughtful acquisitions, the depth and range of the collection continues to expand, as does the programmatic possibilities for bringing the collection to the outside world. The Jesuit Dallas Museum
On July 13, 2022, The Jesuit Dallas Museum (JDM) achieved accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums (AAM), the highest national standard of recognition possible for a museum. The accrediting commission found that the museum not only meets the National Standards and Best Practices for a U.S. Museum. Accreditation signifies a museum’s quality and credibility to the entire museum community, to governments and outside agencies, and to the museum-going public. This certifies that JDM meets the most stringent standards of excellence, following a strenuous review process that AAM member museums undergo every 10 years to maintain their accredited status. Of the nation's estimated 35,000 museums, approximately 3 percent are currently accredited. Twenty of the nearly 150 museums located in New York City share this honor, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Museum of Modern Art.
Contributions make it possible to conserve the quality of the collection, sponsor exhibits, acquire new works and provide educational resources and programs for students and visitors.
