Habitat for Humanity knows that safe, decent and affordable shelter plays a critical role in helping families to create better, healthier, more financially stable lives. With a little help, Habitat homeowners achieve the strength and self-reliance they need to build better lives for themselves and their families with affordable homeownership.
When a family is chosen to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Hood County, it is because they have a need for shelter, they are willing to partner by working 300 hours of their own sweat equity, and they agree to pay a monthly, no-interest mortgage for 20 years. Habitat educates and empowers, while promoting the skills and confidence they need to invest in themselves and their communities. The outcomes can be long-lasting and life-changing.
Habitat for Humanity of Hood County has been building with our partner families since 1996. We are still, and have always been, 100% unpaid volunteers, and are proud to have served over 112 families in Granbury, Texas. We are putting God's love into action, to bring people together to build homes, communities, and hope.
In Hood County, Habitat houses typically cost $65,000 and are attractive, simple, and comfortable. Houses are sturdily built and designed to be safe and energy-efficient. Central air conditioning and heat, as well as fenced back yards are standard features. Habitat houses in Hood County are sold to partner families at no profit and are financed by our Habitat affiliate with affordable, no-interest loans. When homeowners make their monthly mortgage payments, those funds go into a revolving Habitat fund that is used to build 4 houses every year.
When you donate to Habitat for Humanity of Hood County, you are saying "I want to make a difference". Every Habitat house changes lives: those of the families who help build them and pay an affordable mortgage, and all those who offer them a hand up in a time of need by donating money or time. YOU can make a difference...thank you!!
Our Needs
We depend on volunteers to "get things done" since we operate with no paid staff, building 4 houses a year and completing all administrative work with dedicated volunteers.
Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks. In addition to the actual construction of houses, volunteers may answer the telephone, make speeches, do computer work, assist in mailings, coordinate or serve lunches for volunteers, coordinate activities with local churches, and many other activities.
Stop by the construction site on Wednesdays or Saturdays, call us, or send an email. If you're not sure how you can help, let us know and we'd be glad to visit with you to share the areas where volunteers are needed. Learn more by visiting: www.habitatofhoodcounty.org.
Thank you for considering to donate your time with Habitat for Humanity of Hood County in Granbury!
