The theater is a city-owned rental facility and provides GPAC with a permanent theatre venue for performances.
Since the opening of the Uptown Theater in 2008, GPAC has been tremendously successfully in garnering performers from throughout the region and producing high-quality shows productions. The theater has provided the stability and professional environment that the Arts Council needed to encourage artistic growth in our work, increased audiences for GPAC productions and increased revenues through ticket sales.
The Grand Prairie Arts Council's Studio at 116 East Main Street, next door to the Uptown, is GPAC's home base. This leased space provides the Arts Council with workshop and storage space for theatre productions. The city provides GPAC with a space at the Veterans Park Event Center that the Arts Council uses for rehearsals, Summer in the Arts children's classes and meetings.
GPAC obtains funding support for productions, events and exhibits through grants, local hotel/motel tax, private and public foundations, and individual donations. Including Grants from the National Endowment for the Arts in support of GPAC's theatre season.
GPAC's Summer in the Arts program provides cultural arts programming for ages 6-15. Each session serves 50-60 students in full-day, week-long workshops, taught by arts professionals. In 2017, Summer in the Arts will provide three weeks of arts programming: Art Explosion - A one-week visual arts workshop taught by professional art educators. Summer Theatre Production (James & the Giant Peach JR.) - A two-week workshop taught by GPAC theatre professionals. Each session culminates in performances and exhibits.
