Programs and events at the BRAND new Cedar Hill public library, named Traphene Hickman Library, serve the entire community. The Friends of the Cedar Hill Library, previously Zula B Wylie Library Friends, exists to support the library's goal of strengthening community through literacy.  Below is a partial list of items we provide, as well as services, events, and projects we sponsor.

Honoring the Life and Legacy of David Walker Brock

Funds raised in David's name will support special events and projects that encourage curiosity to tinker, explore, and discover.

David Brock passed away from cancer at 23, but his story is far greater than his illness. He was defined by curiosity, creativity, and a rare gift for connecting with everyone—from PhDs to 6-year-olds. To know David was to be inspired.

Born with significant medical challenges, David endured surgeries and therapy, yet he never let obstacles limit him. Despite early speech issues, he became a youth storyteller at 7 and eventually represented his hometown at a national storytelling conference.

David loved climbing trees, going barefoot, and tinkering. He turned discarded machines into new creations, including a printer he transformed into a computer-controlled plotter.  Recognized for his talents, David was invited to work with professors of engineering, math, physics, statistics, computer science, and bioengineering. He co-authored papers and presented research at two major mathematics conferences.

David lived with passion for discovery and joy in sharing knowledge. To honor him, we are creating opportunities for young people to follow in his footsteps—to tinker, explore, and imagine new possibilities.

Your gift in David’s name will inspire and equip the next generation of dreamers, makers, and explorers. Together, we can carry forward his legacy.
