First Community Church UCC

A nonprofit organization

First Community UCC celebrated our 70th anniversary last fall. Our church members are advocates for justice, particularly for LGBTQIA people (we have been Open and Affirming since 2000), people with disabilities (when we moved into our building on Ferguson Road, we made it entirely ADA compliant), and immigrants (through partnerships with Workers Defense and North Texas Dream Team, and sponsoring an asylum seeker). Our members serve on Faith in Texas' Board and Leadership Team. We further support Far East Dallas by, for example, hosting VITA, supporting Ferguson Road Initiative, and supporting local schools through reading partnerships, monetary support for GSAs, and participation in Gaston MS's Site Based Decision Making committee. Our congregation is about 35 adults and 15 children.

Our members and participants include teachers, lawyers, nonprofit leaders, and chaplains. Our church is diverse, including LGBTQ and straight/cis people, disabled and currently abled people, people of various income levels, different races, singles and different types of families. We represent the best of Dallas, and we're invested in seeing Dallas thrive.

Our Needs

Financial support for 21-year-old asylum seeker from Honduras.
Financial support and start up volunteers to develop groups for LGBTQIA youth and young adults, as well as parents and allies in Far East Dallas.
Interest in developing programs to support children with disabilities and their parents/caregivers.

Mission

Our mission, through the grace of God, is to open whatever is closed: the church to all people, hearts to God's love, minds to God's story, and lives to be instruments of change.
