Emily's Smile Boxes was founded in 2008 after Emily's little brother Jude had a massive stroke and spent many days in the hospital. Emily started filling boxes full of activities for pediatric patients and their siblings during hospital visits and rehab. Emily also holds box parties where volunteers put together hundreds of boxes to benefit the community. These box parties help teach children about the benefits of giving back. Emily's Smile Boxes also ships boxes upon request throughout the United States and she provides supplies to many other groups to host their own box parties. To date Emily's charity has passed out more than 21,000 boxes in the DFW and raised more than $200,000 for their cause. The number of boxes that have been shipped and distributed by other groups is immeasurable.
One of the most common phrases our charity hears is how beneficial the boxes are to siblings who visit their brother or sister on a regular basis. Many parents keep the boxes at the hospital so they can use them while they are at the facility. Our group strives to spread smiles when possible during a very difficult time.
Our Needs
Our agency primarily needs funds to keep supplying boxes and shipping.
Mission
Our organization makes boxes full of toys and activities for patients and their siblings during hospital visits. We dedicate our time to make these boxes with volunteers and, teach children that community service can be fun and that one kid can make a difference! Emily speaks to local elementary schools about starting her non profit at the age of ten years old and the importance of giving back.
Needs
We need monetary donations as well as any donations for the boxes themselves like coloring books, markers, stuffed animals, and more.
We also always need volunteers to host Smile Box parties and put boxes together.
We also need donations for raffles and will accept these anytime for example vacation homes, signed footballs, tickets to concerts, and unique events.
Equity Statement
Emily's Smile Boxes receives requests from all over the world and different races, ages, and more to send boxes to and we fill all requests.
We also have several special need adult programs that help us make boxes and children of all walks of life. We are a very inclusive organization and strive to meet all needs of the community.
