East Parker County Library's (EPCL) summer reading program drew 860 participants this year and continues to build each summer. EPCL provides the community with over 26,000 books, audio materials, and DVDs for check-out. From offering free Wi-Fi and computer access to providing space for tutoring, studying, and exam proctoring, the library offers various ways to meet the needs of the communities we serve. At EPCL, patrons can job hunt, complete applications, access government forms, or visit websites for information and entertainment. Through our many programs and special events, such as our Summer Reading Program, Book Clubs for teens and adults, and much more, EPCL has something for everyone – from tiny tots to seasoned seniors and everyone in between! The library serves all of Parker County and Aledo ISD, the towns of Aledo, Willow Park, Hudson Oaks, Annetta, Annetta North, Annetta South, and unincorporated East Parker County. Through membership in Parker County Library Association, EPCL offers patrons an additional 200,000 items. We also participate in North Texas Libraries On The Go and Newsbank, the digital resources allowing patrons to download and read books and newspapers on their own devices.
Our Needs
Aledo and East Parker County continue to undergo record growth, which presents new challenges and opportunities for East Parker County Library. One of the newest ways in which we’re meeting the changing needs of our communities is by adding a Makerspace – a place within the library to explore new projects and activities from robotics to crafts. Makerspaces have been incorporated into classrooms and libraries for years, and provide hands-on opportunities for creativity and collaboration for all ages. Our Makerspace area will give patrons new experiences and prompt the exploration of new ideas, new hobbies, and even new career possibilities.
The possible uses of EPCL’s Makerspace are limited only by the imaginations of the users and the availability of materials. One of the many uses of our Makerspace is to provide activities related to STEM learning (science, technology, engineering, and math) for all library patrons. For those activities and others, our needs include a Cricut maker, a 3D printer, STEM building kits, Legos and blocks, small tools, and storage containers. We also need to continually replenish consumable project materials including markers, pens and other office supplies, art supplies, fabric and fabric supplies, yarn, beads, and many other craft supplies to be sure that our Makerspace is always available for our patrons.
We’re excited to add Makerspace to the programs and services offered by EPCL. With your generous donation, you will help us continue to grow with the communities we serve.
