Our mission is to transform lives through design, inspiring families to maintain a standard of living in which they can thrive.

Dwell with Dignity provides personalized interior designs and home furnishings to families transitioning out of poverty, homelessness, and social injustice into self-sufficiency. Through partnerships with local accountability-based agencies, DwD serves families who have completed transitional programs and secured stable housing, but who lack the means to create a comfortable, livable environment. Dwell with Dignity addresses this critical economic need through lifting the initial financial burden of furnishing a new home. Each home is fully customized to reflect the family dwelling within it: children receive a desk for study and play; parents receive their own beds—often for the first time.

In addition to serving individual families, DwD partners with nonprofit and community organizations to transform shared spaces—such as youth centers and school resource rooms—into uplifting environments. These projects expand our impact and increase our partners’ capacity to better serve their communities. Through the power of thoughtfully designed spaces, DwD provides comfort, dignity, and security to individuals and communities in need.

Giving Activity

Mission

Dwell with Dignity's mission is to transform lives through design. Dwell with Dignity’s services are focused on two core constituencies: (1) families working toward long-term self-sufficiency who need help creating home environments in which they can thrive, and (2) public organizations who provide spaces that serve as a respite for impoverished, underserved, and/or differently abled communities.

For its family projects, DwD partners with social services agencies in the Dallas area that have programs in place to take families from homelessness and poverty to self-sufficiency. These agencies nominate alumni of their programs who have shown a commitment to establishing and maintaining a home for themselves but who may need assistance in outfitting those homes to provide a comfortable, welcoming environment. Using a combination of donated and purchased items, DwD creates a personalized space for each family member and beautiful shared spaces tailored to the family’s specific needs.

For community projects, DwD collaborates with local nonprofits, schools, and social service providers to reimagine shared spaces that serve under-resourced, marginalized, or differently abled populations. A combination of purchased and donated goods is implemented to turn otherwise utilitarian spaces into functional, uplifting environments reflecting the neighborhood and community members served.

Our work is grounded in proven outcomes. In the year following a family’s home transformation, we anticipate:

• 100% will remain self-sufficient for 12 months following their home installation.

• 100% will remain employed for 12 months following their home installation.

• 95% will see positive changes in their children’s overall behavior.

• 95% will see positive changes in the children’s academic performance.

• 95% will say they manage their finances better due to their improved living conditions.

• 100% will say their personal confidence has improved.

Needs

In order to bring the benefits of design to our clients, we rely on the support of our community. Approximately 60% of our annual revenue is generated through our seasonal Thrift Studio pop-up shop, where designer furniture, decor, and one-of-a-kind art are sold at a steep discount to the general public, with all proceeds directly benefiting our mission.

While Thrift Studio covers a portion of costs for serving families and communities, funding from North Texas Giving Day is essential for meeting the demand experienced throughout the year. The funds raised will directly support the costs of personalized interior designs for low-income families with children and community spaces. This includes groceries, toiletries, kitchen supplies, linens, sheets, a desk and bed for each family member, custom art, and décor that reflects the unique character of the family or organization served.

Your support of Dwell with Dignity on North Texas Giving Day ensures that we can make an impact on more individuals, families, and organizations through designing better spaces for our partners who are otherwise limited in resources.

Equity Statement

Dwell with Dignity is committed to being a driving force for social equity in the North Texas community. We seek diversity and inclusion in everything we do, which should be a critical expectation of an organization whose clients are more than 90% people of color.

We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion on every front, whether it's in our staffing, our leadership, or those who serve on our board.
