Dallas Street Dog Advocates

Dallas Street Dog Advocates (DSDA) was founded by concerned, experienced and compassionate people whose common goal is to make a difference in the lives of abandoned street dogs in Dallas and surrounding rural areas. Dogs that enter our program are often sick, injured, neglected, and sadly some have even experienced abuse.  This year, we've found the need for help even greater than ever before!

Why is the need even greater?

Animal shelters across Texas are all overcapacity and many are not accepting dogs due the mounting number of strays being picked up off the streets. Because of the long wait lists for surrenders it is not uncommon for desperate owners to abandon their pets leaving them vulnerable to serious injuries, starvation and disease.  Pregnant dogs and dogs with nursing puppies are being dumped in rural areas leaving "Man's Best Friend" completely defenseless.  When an owner surrenders their family dog to a local shelter, they are only given a few days to be adopted but many are euthanized that very same day. Economic challenges have caused owners to simply leave their dogs behind as they can no longer afford to care for them.

How does DSDA help? 

DSDA volunteers pride ourselves in being a "bridge" between the homeless street dogs and their forever families as well as a catalyst in helping individuals reduce the number of unwanted or abandoned dogs in their own communities. People living in the most afflicted areas need help and rely on our assistance.  

Without exception DSDA dogs are sterilized so will never contribute to the mounting number of unwanted dogs. Placed in caring foster homes, our rescues learn to be part of a loving family and receive training while recovering physically and emotionally. Additionally, DSDA dogs are vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted. Forever Homes are carefully screened to ensure the best match for the dog's energy level and personality.

Our Needs

Our biggest needs are twofold.  Through the generosity of donors, DSDA provides food, medical care, supplies and training for each dog. However, the ONLY way DSDA can save even more dogs' lives is with more Foster Homes!  DSDA covers all of the medical expenses and provides all the supplies. We are grateful that your generosity allows us the ability to even accept adoptable dogs with major medical needs. The dogs we have taken in over the past year are generally in much worse shape physically and emotionally than in prior years due to increased abandonment, abuse and economic problems. Many are pregnant, have heartworm or both!  Often our dogs are riddled with mange, severely malnourished, have soft tissue injuries and broken bones.  

We are always in need of  In-Kind Donations such as food, collars, harnesses, leashes, beds, crates, treats and toys- items many of our dogs have never had prior to entering our organization.
