Con Mi MADRE has provided young Latinas and their mothers with education and support services for 28 years in Central Texas, originally as the Hispanic Mother-Daughter Program through the Junior League of Austin and as an independent non-profit since 2008. In 2018, Con Mi MADRE launched a Fort Worth chapter and serves 3 middles schools in Fort Worth ISD: Kirkpatrick, Riverside, and Rosemont Middle Schools. We're excited to begin our fourth year of programming!

CMM has three distinct, yet successive programs:
1) Post-secondary Preparedness Program (6th-10th grades)
2) Post-secondary Participation Program (11th-12th grades)
3) Post-secondary Success Program (enrolled college students)

Currently, our Fort Worth students are in the Post-secondary Preparedness Program where 6th-10th-grade students receive 12 sessions of our academic/social skills curriculum in small group settings at their schools. The curriculum focuses on how to excel in academics, have healthy relationships, effectively communicate, prepare for post-secondary education, and have healthy self-esteem.

Each program follows a developmentally and academically appropriate curriculum that is implemented by CMM social work staff and interns. Students also receive access to conferences, fairs, college visits, and individual counseling provided by our social work staff. Participants in CMM have the resources, skills and support they need to fulfill their academic, personal, and career goals. The typical mother-daughter team receives 150-170 hours of program access and counseling each year.

Our Four Pillars:
Start Early
Parental Engagement
Culturally Relevant
Holistic Approach (Relationships, Academics, Social, and Emotional)

Our Needs

Con Mi MADRE - Fort Worth is currently looking to raise funds for programming events. We annually facilitate a Balanced Living Conference, a Bilingual College & Career Fair and a Leadership Summit.

Mission

Con Mi MADRE is a two-generation non-profit that empowers young Latinas and their mothers through education and support services that increase preparedness, participation, and success in post-secondary education.

Con Mi MADRE translates to "with my mother," which exemplifies the unique element of our programming that intentionally engages mothers in their daughter's educational journey from 6th grade through college graduation.

Needs

Con Mi MADRE needs recurring donors to commit to monthly giving to help our Fort Worth chapter fulfill our mission to empower young Latinas and their mothers through the education and support services that increase preparedness, participation, and success in post-secondary education.

Even a $5 monthly recurring donation can help!

Equity Statement

We believe courage and confidence to be oneself are born in spaces where people can safely explore their unique ideas, dreams and goals. We work to create these safe spaces by ensuring our students and their families feel heard and respected throughout their time with us. Participants live by a code of treating everyone with dignity and respect regardless of circumstances. We welcome a person of any race who may deal with oppression specifically for their gender itself. Those who identify with any, some, or all of these categories: women, non-binary people, and agender people.

We believe resiliency to forge a stronger future comes from honoring the wisdom of the past. A key part of our students’ path is witnessing the journey and struggles of their ancestors. The discrimination and oppression they faced impacted their access to education, their socioeconomic status, their access to health care and much more. Despite these barriers they instilled in their children a sense of self that comes from ties to heritage and culture. Bringing this forward grounds our students in their unique identities and through their leadership it comes into the world.

We live our values, running Con Mi MADRE with integrity around inclusion and belonging. Our staff and board reflect the community we serve. The majority of Con Mi MADRE's staff and board members are Hispanic and come from similar economic backgrounds as our students and their families. For instance, most of our coordinators were the first in their family to graduate from college. Therefore, they have a first-hand understanding of our students’ experience and can offer culturally adequate services to our participants.
