Since its founding in 1979, the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Foundation has remained steadfast in its mission to preserve, promote, and protect the rich heritage of ranch life and advance the future of the livestock industry in the Southwest for present and future generations.
The Cattle Raisers Museum officially opened in 1981 to foster greater public awareness and appreciation of ranching heritage. Today, the Museum's collections include books and manuscripts, historic photographs, oral history interviews, artifacts, and educational resources that document the history of the cattle industry and the legacy of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.
Over the past 45 years, the Cattle Raisers Museum has welcomed more than 7 million visitors, including over 70,000 students annually through field trips and educational experiences. Our educational programming engages families, students, teachers, and visitors of all ages, highlighting the history, heritage, and culture of ranching while showcasing the commitment of today's cattle raisers to natural resource stewardship and producing a safe, nutritious food supply.
Most importantly, the Foundation is helping secure the future of the cattle industry through its scholarship program. To date, more than $1 million has been awarded to students pursuing degrees in agriculture and veterinary medicine. By providing financial assistance to deserving students, we are helping develop the next generation of industry leaders and ensuring the livestock sector has the skilled professionals it needs to thrive. Together, these efforts preserve the legacy of cattle raising while investing in its future.
Our primary need at this time is assistance with the general operations of the Museum and Foundation to enable us to continue to tell our important story of the history of the cattle industry in Texas.
The joint mission of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Foundation and the Cattle Raisers Museum is to preserve, promote, and protect the rich heritage of ranch life and advance the future of the livestock industry in the Southwest for present and future generations.
