Since 2001, Arlington Urban Ministries (AUM) has utilized volunteers from the community to support our neediest residents. Our mission is to provide rent, electric utility and food support to families and individuals in urgent need. We provide our services without regard to religion or non-religion or other differences, but rather with a spirit of compassion and respect for each client. While our primary goal remains to meet the most basic needs of people in crisis, over the years, we have expanded our programs to support families during the crucial transition from crisis to stability.

Our Programs:
Thriving Families Program provides 3-6 months of intensive case management and financial assistance to selected clients who have committed to achieving sustained financial and housing stability. Counseling, home visits, educational and employment assistance are all part of this successful new program.

Mobile Food Pantry: The first Wednesday of every month, AUM partners with Tarrant Area Food Bank to offer nutritious fresh fruit, vegetables, dairy bread and meat to low income families residing in Arlington. Over 200 families each month, and 50+ volunteers from churches, youth groups and the community join together to organize and distribute over 25,000 pounds of fresh food.

Nu2U Resale Store: AUM operatives a popular consignment quality thrift store in Arlington that offers gently used clothing, furniture and household items. Clients receive vouchers for clothing at Nu2U and the community at large shops at Nu2U for great bargains. A small staff supplemented by dedicated volunteers, some of whom have worked at Nu2U for years, keeps Nu2U open 6 days a week from 10 until 6. The proceeds from the donated goods in our store support our programs.

Children's Christmas Party: 50-75 children from families AUM assisted during the current year participate in the annual Christmas part for children between 0 and 12 years of age. Parents receive gift certificates to purchase gifts for their children's Christmas morning, while young guests enjoy holiday craft making, games, cookies and punch and a visit from Santa.

Emergency Food and Necessities: AUM offers a pantry of basic food, personal hygiene items and shoes, socks and blankets for clients who are homeless and food items, detergent and diapers for those who are in their homes but have run out of resources, especially at month's end.

Hot Dogs for the Homeless and Homeless Sack Lunches: Each day AUM offers sack lunches to our friends living on the streets or in their cars. Twice a month, our generous volunteers grill hot dogs for our homeless friends to give back and offer fellowship.
"The assistance that was provided to me by the AUM was a life saver, not only for me, but for my daughter as well. Today, I'm working full time and helping others whenever I can. To all the donors, your continued support to this agency, not only provide financial assistance, food and other necessities to families in need, I believe the agency is a vital part of this community, please continue to give, you may not see it but your continued support of the AUM changes the lives of so many families. It has been a life changer for me." Mr. Wheeler speech from Boots, Chaps & Cowboy Hats fundraiser.

"My family went from a two paycheck household to one. It was a struggle to adjust and we were barely getting by. It was me and my wife and a 14 month old baby. My wife got a hired on as a preschool teacher and I was interviewing with companies to get hired on quickly. With bills, car payments, student loans and rent draining our savings it wasn't going to last long. Unfortunately as the year was coming to an end, not a lot of companies were hiring. My family was drowning in water and felt like we were breathing air through a straw. Stress and emotions were beginning to rise our family. That was where Arlington Urban Ministries came in. God used AUM as an answer to our prayer and help us through a very hard time. Thank you for supporting and helping families facing a temporary crisis." - Jones Family
