The Aldredge House is one of the finest historic houses in the City of Dallas and is the only landmark structure open to the public on a regular basis. Designed in 1915 by architect Hal Thomson in the French Eclectic style this house also uses splendid Renaissance detailing from the Beaux Arts movement. The lavish interiors, designed by architect Marion Fooshee, complements the other wonderful period houses in the Swiss Avenue Historic District. Since 1974, it has been open to the public allowing guests to experience the grand interiors of the early twentieth century. Great care has been taken to preserve the historic features of this house in their original condition by the Dallas County Medical Society Alliance Foundation. They have received a Preservation Achievement Award from Preservation Dallas for their work to maintain this important historic gem for future generations to enjoy.
The Dallas County Medical Society Alliance Foundation organized for charitable and educational purposes promoting better health and education through community programming for Dallas County. This fund preserves and restores a house museum that is open to the public and used by other non-profits for educational programming and community use. It also serves as a center where all of this organizations outreach programming in the Dallas community originate. This includes sports physicals and immunizations for students so they can attend school and participate in sports; nursing scholarship program that targets capable students who cannot attend school without financial support; literacy program mentoring students at the Bayles Elementary School.
The Summer of 2022 was for repairs! As a result of the extended freeze in February 2022 the house incurred damage to the roof in several areas. The damage went undiscovered until the spring rains. The roof has been repaired, painting and wood work repairs have been done as well. The compressor on the air conditioner to the south side of the upstairs failed and has been replaced. New windows we made and replaced in two rooms and a third replacement is still needed. The rains in August caused a flood in the backyard and the carriage house and there was a roof leak into the laundry room in the carriage house.
