We are celebrating our 54th year of meeting the needs of women and girls this year! Founded in 1971, with Kathryn Bryan as President, the Tarrant County Branch of the AAUW (AAUW TCB) was formed to meet the needs of working women, as well as women of all backgrounds, who wanted to make a difference in the community. For the past 53 years AAUW TCB has been a pioneer in mentoring young women and encouraging them to further their education.
Our Needs
In 2025 - 2026, we will focus on assisting high school girls with Girls Inc. Our newest endeavor is to provide financial and in-person support for the Empowering Young Innovators All-Girls Edition program for 6th - 9th grade girls at the International Newcomers Academy.
AAUW TCB will continue to provide scholarships for three deserving students at Tarrant County College through our endowed scholarship.
Our Initiatives
Scholarships
AAUW TCB has endowed Scholarships with the Tarrant County College Foundation since 1998. After starting with $25,000, the $100,000 endowment was fully funded in 2022. AAUW TCB currently offers three scholarships for each semester to deserving students at Tarrant County College. Now we are pursuing a scholarship award program with Tarleton! Our goal is $25,000 and we are within $5000 of that goal. We need your support to make this scholarship a reality for a future Texas woman!
Community Service Groups
This group works in collaboration with other nonprofit organizations to make a difference in the community through volunteerism. Some of the projects AAUW-TCB members have participated in were: volunteering at and providing funds for the Tarrant Area Food Bank, providing children's books for Transforming Lives, providing Teddy Bears to Cooks Children's Hospital and participating in the Girls Inc Shower to provide first year college supplies for several graduating seniors. AAUW TCB has supported The Women's Center since 1995, both financially and through advocacy. We purchase a sign and sponsor a team in the Victory Over Violence Walk/Run.
GIRLS INC SHOWER
For the past eight years, AAUW TCB has joined other sponsors to support Girls Inc as it seeks to level the playing field for college-bound high school graduates in Girls Inc programs. Most of the girls are the first in their families to attend college. Each year the members of AAUW TCB sponsor one girl and fulfill her "wish list". In July 2023, college shower sponsors provided about 60 girls with dorm essentials. We were able to give our chosen girl an I pad, items for her dorm room, and assorted school supplies.
AAUW Empowers Women!
The American Association of University Women advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research.
*Monetary donations to support scholarships for women and cooperative projects within the North Texas Community.
