As only the second organization of our kind in the United States, our growth and reach over the past seven years has been incredible. All of our retreats have been near or at capacity. Due to the presented need and high number of requests we have expanded our programming and reach while continuing to offer care to families who have experienced child loss at any age from pregnancy loss to adult loss but have also expanded to reach out specifically to parents whose children died due to accidental causes as well as homicidal violence. We offer seven 4-day retreats, one 1-day retreat, and five special events throughout the year. We also continue to offer virtual community groups that provide ongoing support to parents from coast to coast by allowing them to connect virtually in a safe space and create tangible memories while continuing to parent their child. Our in person participants have traveled from across Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Ohio, Kansas, Indiana, Minnesota, Maryland, California, New Mexico, Arkansas, Washington, Florida, New Mexico, Colorado and Canada.

Our Needs

The need for grief resources for parents that provide healthy ways of coping, offer community and allow the space for both remembering, celebrating and creating a legacy for children is tremendous. The growth of A Memory Grows over the past 7 years has shown that our organization is meeting a unique need in our community.

Community is more important now than ever before as the isolation that comes with grief has been significantly exacerbated due to the pandemic and post-pandemic realizations of remote workplaces and other social events. We are thrilled to be able to offer in person retreats and events again during this continued time of anxiety and uncertainty. We remain committed to offering a hybrid format for our community that is unable to attend in person so that anyone who is seeking support can find others to walk with them on this journey of grief and love.

Our goal is to continue to be able to offer all of our services at a low cost so that anyone who desires to attend can do so without financial strain. Over the past two years we have witnessed the number of scholarship requests more than double.  The gifts received from North Texas Giving Day will help to underwrite the expenses of our retreats and special events, provide scholarships as well as to allow us to expand our programming by offering more retreats, seminars and special events.  Our new retreat location provides the opportunities for more outdoor activities including hiking, biking, paddle boating, kayaking, fishing, swimming and so much more.  We hope to be able to offer equine therapy and massage therapy as options to our parents during our weekend retreats.  Increased staffing is needed to broaden our offerings and we hope to one day soon have the opportunity to own our own property and facility to offer all of our retreats and events in one central location.

Thank you in advance for providing hope and healing to parents and for allowing A Memory Grows to be the place where love always carries on.

Mission

The mission of A Memory Grows is to provide a space of healing and peace for parents who are grieving the death of their child. By bringing together those who have experienced a similar loss in a retreat setting we honor and celebrate our children while making connections with others who truly understand our journey. A memory grows where love carries on.
