Transform 1012 N. Main Street is a coalition and community-led project that has co-designed the vision for The Fred Rouse Center for Arts and Community Healing with community leaders and members, including the eight founding member organizations that serve on the Board: DNAWORKS, LGBTQ SAVES, the Opal Lee Foundation, SOL Ballet Folklorico, Tarrant County Coalition for Peace and Justice, the 1012 Youth Council, The Welman Project, and Window to Your World. Fred Rouse, III, has joined the original eight founding board organizations to represent the Fred Rouse Foundation.

The Fred Rouse Center for Arts and Community Healing seeks to provide arts training and programming for underserved youth, including specific services for LGBTQQ2SPIAA+ youth; performance space for local and touring artists; an exhibit space dedicated to social justice and civil rights; a makerspace, tool library, and DIY classes to provide local residents with equitable access to equipment and knowledge; meeting spaces for racial equity and leadership training; an outdoor urban agriculture and artisan marketplace; and affordable live/work space for artists- and entrepreneurs-in-residence.

Mission

Transform 1012 N. Main Street is transforming the former Ku Klux Klan Klavern No. 101 Auditorium in Fort Worth into The Fred Rouse Center for Arts and Community Healing, named after a local Black man lynched in 1921. The Fred Rouse Center will return resources to the communities in Fort Worth negatively impacted by the presence of the KKK. We are committed to reparative justice, antiracism work, inter- and intra-group healing, and support of the arts as we transform a monument to hate and violence into a space of liberation and freedom.

Equity Statement

Commitment to equity and justice is at the core of our organization and serves as the foundation of our mission, leadership, programming, services and work culture.

We manifest this commitment to racial and cultural equity internally through our leadership and work environment: each founding Board Member represents and/or serves the communities targeted for violence and economic marginalization by the Ku Klux Klan in the 1920s as well as today, including Black, Catholic, Hispanic, immigrant, Jewish, and LGBTQQ2SPIAA+ populations. Furthermore, Transform 1012 N. Main Street is committed to reparative justice and returning resources to those who have suffered from racially-directed and other forms of violence and oppression.
