Finding His Voice: Elian’s Journey

Elian has always had a lot to say. The happy, social 2-year-old loves to laugh, play, and make everyone around him smile. He understood what was happening around him, but he didn’t have the words to tell his family what he wanted or needed.

Before therapy, Elian knew only a few words and often relied on one sound, “me,” for almost everything. Whether he wanted water, saw something exciting, or needed his mom, the same sound had to say it all.

When Elian began receiving speech therapy through The Warren Center’s Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) program, progress came slowly. There were frustrating days when the words just wouldn’t come. But his family and therapist kept showing up, practicing sounds, singing songs, and celebrating every attempt.

Then, little by little, things began to change. Sounds became animal noises. Animal noises became attempts at words. And those words began giving Elian something incredibly important: a way to make himself heard.

Today, Elian can express more of what he wants and needs. There are still more words to come, but each one represents how far he has already traveled.

For a child who once had one sound for almost everything, every new word means more than communication. It means being understood.

This North Texas Giving Day, your support can help more children like Elian find their voice and give families the support they need to celebrate milestones they once only hoped for.

Our Needs

The Warren Center will strives to not turn a child or family away due to an inability to pay. For each and every one of the 1,300 children we serve, the agency needs to raise $2,000 to cover the costs of services. This alleviates the family from an overwhelming financial burden so they can focus on the health and well-being of their child. Our main goal is to change children's lives and we can continue to do so through your generous donations.
