One person CAN make a difference.
In the summer of 1999, Dallas attorney Hank Alterman stopped for a quick meal at a local diner before meeting a client. During a conversation with his waiter, Hank learned that the young man had dreamed of attending college his entire life but simply couldn’t afford it. He was bright, ambitious, and clearly capable of great success if given the opportunity.
Hank left that day feeling he had done far too little.
Beyond wishing the young man well, shaking his hand and leaving a generous tip, there was nothing more he could do.
That encounter changed his life.
One year later, Hank founded The Scholarship Fund, a nonprofit corporation dedicated to helping deserving students with financial need pursue higher education.
Over the next twenty-three years, The Scholarship Fund awarded more than $230,000 in scholarships, helping over 100 students pursue college and careers. With this help, and along with their own dedication and diligence, these young people have gone on to become engineers, healthcare workers, social workers, teachers, policy makers, attorneys and more.
Hank never learned whether the young waiter fulfilled his dream of attending college.
What he does know is that one young man's dream inspired opportunities for more than 100 others.
One person CAN make a difference.
And that person can be YOU!
