Spectrum Chamber Music Society began in 1986 with an ensemble of friends and colleagues from the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra who enjoyed playing chamber music together and wanted to share their joy of collaboration with the community at large. It quickly grew to include various ensembles of FWSO musicians who presented an eclectic mix of classical music from the 18th Century to the present day.
Today, Spectrum continues this tradition with a series of six unique programs per season at First Jefferson Unitarian Universalist Church in east Fort Worth and First United Methodist Church in downtown Fort Worth. As part of our commitment to sharing music with as many people as possible, most of our performances are free and open to the public (we do accept freewill donations to help compensate our artists for their time and talent).
Spectrum is looking for funding for exciting projects such as our THIRD ANNUAL music composition award, featuring a cash prize to the winning composer and performance of the chosen work on a Spectrum concert, and our special spring 2024 concert, featuring the Spectrum return of Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra Music Director Laureate and local favorite, Miguel Harth-Bedoya, conducting a performance of the Suite from Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring in its original version for thirteen instruments.
Music encapsulates everything about the human condition: the good, the challenging, the dark, the beautiful. Live music gives us the opportunity to examine everything around us from many different angles. The experience of sharing music with others gives us a feeling of community that continues to warm us long after we leave the performance space.
Spectrum Chamber Music Society was founded on the belief that musician-driven programming creates the most captivating performances for audiences. Musicians of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and other artists share their individual musical tastes, resulting in eclectic and energizing programs.
We invite you to join us in the belief that we are all more alike than we are different. With optimism for the legacy of live chamber music for future generations, Spectrum brings our passion for music to the Fort Worth community and beyond.
