Second Chance SPCA, Plano's first no-kill shelter, was founded in 2006 when a small group of caring citizens could no longer stand by and watch helpless animals be euthanized in Dallas/Fort Worth-area municipal shelters. With pet overpopulation a constant problem, city shelters struggle to keep up with the never-ending stream of animals coming through their doors who all need housing, food, and new homes. Municipal shelters are often forced to euthanize adoptable animals simply because there isn't enough room to save them all. For more than a decade, Second Chance SPCA has sought to alleviate this issue by rescuing animals from city shelters who might otherwise be euthanized and giving them a second chance at life.
We have worked hard to serve homeless pets and their owners in the North Texas area without any financial assistance from the government. As a 501(c)3 non-profit, we rely entirely on donations to make a difference in the lives of animals - and with very little paid staff, the large majority of our funding goes directly into animal care. We rescue animals who might otherwise be euthanized because they have a medical condition or a behavior problem; with the help of our compassionate veterinarians and our dedicated volunteers, we nurse these abandoned animals back to health so they can begin new lives with forever families. Second Chance SPCA takes care of our animals after they have been adopted, too: we offer training assistance for new adopters and if an animal can't stay in their new home for any reason, we always take them back. In addition to saving the lives of at-risk dogs and cats, we perform outreach within our community to educate pet owners about the importance of spaying and neutering, veterinary care, and volunteering.
To date, Second Chance SPCA has successfully rescued and rehomed more than 4,900 animals - and none of this would be possible without support from our donors and volunteers.

Mission
Second Chance SPCA is a volunteer-based organization that seeks to provide a second chance for neglected & abandoned animals who might otherwise be euthanized in city shelters. We house dogs and cats at our no-kill shelter in Plano, and have saved thousands of lives since 2006. With your support, SCSPCA gives homeless pets the compassion & vet care they need to heal while they await adoption. As a no-kill facility, every animal we rescue can take all the time they need to find the perfect fit.

Equity Statement
Second Chance SPCA recognizes that racism is the root of many problems across the country.
Communities are different in relation to well-being and opportunity. Black, Native American,
Latin, and Asian communities each have their own experiences of racism. We must address
and acknowledge the unique expertise, assets and needs of each community.
Intersectionality is crucial to equity work. The different identities we hold overlap and affect
how we experience discrimination. Examples are race, ethnicity, class, gender identity, and
sexual orientation. We must take into account their cumulative effect to understand the
complexity of prejudices people face. Otherwise, efforts to remedy inequities in one group
could perpetuate injustice toward another. This work requires a commitment to anti-racist
policies, practices, and behaviors.
Second Chance SPCA strives to create a healthy environment for all people across race, class,
gender, geography, and other differences. To do this we seek to:

* Ensure that every policy enacted reflects principles of equity and justice;
