The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, Inc. (SHPE) is a national non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the participation of Hispanic college students and professionals in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). As the largest Hispanic academic organization in the country, SHPE works both at the national and local levels to encourage its members to achieve academic excellence, professional development, and career expectations.

As a professional chapter, we engage, develop and mentor professionals and graduate students within the DFW area among all STEM disciplines. In addition to providing an outlet to volunteer; the chapter provides workshops pertaining to career guidance, professional/technical development, and leadership opportunities to its professional members. SHPE DFW has partnered with several districts and organizations to continue making resources available to the Dallas-Fort Worth community.  All events are geared towards the pillars of excellence that SHPE strives to fulfill.

  • Community Outreach/Service - hosting speaking engagements to encourage future engineers in K-12 schools and engineers in training with all of the Universities and colleges throughout DFW. Noche de Ciencias (Night of Science) events, Pathways to College (P2C) and College to Careers (C2C).
  •  Professional Development - Every year we have four PDS (Professional Development Series) events that bring industry leaders to speak to our chapter members, sharing their experiences and expertise for continuous improvement of our members.
  • Leadership Development - Our flagship rotational program the Gutierrez-Laclette Engineering Development ApprenticeSHPE (GLEDA) is a dynamic chapter-specific leadership development program that has transformed the leadership vision and approach of many entry level engineers by training them to tackle complex issues common in the professional environment.
  • Mentorship - All of our GLEDAs are assigned a mentor within the chapter that will give them a chance to learn and be advised by a more experienced professional member, while giving our mentors the ability to give back and develop their mentorship skills.
