Our Needs

Our current challenge is to secure matching funds to apply for a Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) grant for trail improvements in the Celeste to Wolfe City distance of approximately 10 miles. Phase I of this project will include grading, drainage, bridge repair, and railings. The TPWD recreational grants program requires a 80/20 match. A single sponsor may apply for up to $200,000 in one application period (80% of a $250,000 project). Your donation toward our $50,000 match (20% of the $250,000 project) for the Celeste to Wolfe City project will provide a 4:1 rate of return.

The NETT Coalition and the Chaparral Trail Board want to make as many usable miles available for the enjoyment of trail users from the DFW Metro Area, as soon as possible. We need your support to make this happen.

Mission

The goal of the Northeast Texas Trail (NETT) Coalition is to advocate for the development and use of the 130-mile rail-trail corridor rolling over the countryside of Northeast Texas. This recreational trail traverses 19 rural towns and cities from Farmersville to New Boston, linking communities, open space, and cultural/historical areas. The Coalition is working to create a comprehensive system of trails as a vital component of the Northeast Texas region's economy and quality of life.

The Chaparral Rails to Trails has responsibility for the distance between Merit and Paris. Three grant projects have already been funded, two of which are currently under construction: The first is Roxton to Paris; the second Merit to Celeste; and the third, a 1.5-mile paved trail within Wolfe City should begin the construction phase in September. All monies raised during North Texas Giving Day will be used as match money toward a grant application to begin work on the Celeste to Wolfe City portion of the NETT, which will add a 10-mile extension for a total of 25 usable trail miles from Farmersville through Wolfe City.
