Lone Star Wind Orchestra (LSWO) is a non-profit organization and premier concert producer with one of Dallas’ most diverse educational programs mentoring the youth of our community. Entering the 18th Season of concerts of wind band music from classical works, to film scores, to new works commissioned by an inclusive community of composers will be performed in world-class venues.

LSWO has presented concerts at the Eisemann Center, the Meyerson Symphony Center, and Moody Performance Hall. LSWO is an essential performing arts organization and educational partner in North Texas.

Over the course of seventeen (17) years, LSWOs professional musicians and celebrated guest soloists have presented eighty-nine (89) unique concerts under the baton of Eugene Migliaro Corporon, Music Director and Conductor of the Lone Star Wind Orchestra and Regents Professor of Music at the world-famous University of North Texas School of Music. Thousands of devoted music lovers, arts patrons, area students, and audiences discovering the thrill of live music for the first time, all find a home with Lone Star Wind Orchestra.

LSWO founders Robert Clark, Barry Knezek, and Christopher Tucker, musicians and music enthusiasts envisioned an exceptional ensemble of professional musicians who are industry leaders in the genre of wind band music. The resulting Lone Star Wind Orchestra values all musicians as talented professionals worthy of the “first chair”. LSWO’s guiding principle results in an approach unique among world-class orchestras.  Musicians rotate roles and musical assignments at every concert. As an exceptional ensemble LSWO not only presents exceptional work it also commissions and premiers dynamic new work by diverse, world-renowned composers.

LSWO’s principles are adding to the genre’s catalog of work created specifically for wind orchestras. LSWO performs at international, national, and local clinics and conventions including the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE) International Convention, Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, Arkansas Bandmasters Convention, and Texas Bandmasters Convention.

This year LSWO Youth Winds Ensemble is committed to "Practice - Practice- Practice" as it prepares to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York for its premier performance… All of this will need the support of generous donors.

Needs

Lone Star Wind Orchestra has successfully navigated difficult times and the devastating loss of revenue in concert ticket sales that all performing arts organizations have struggled with. Meanwhile adapting and continuing to commission new work all while maintaining valuable educational work in creative ways. Your gift will expand the reach of the Orchestra’s educational and expanding concert audiences for both students and patrons alike. LSWO has grown to serve more than 1000 students a year. The number of students continues to increase and so does the mandate for LSWO to serve, grow, and maintain our educational programs which provide world-class artistic experiences for students from kindergarten through the 12th Grade across North Texas.

• LSWO’s partnership with St. Philip's Community School’s after-school program serves some 200 South Dallas students in grades K-6th.

• LSWO’s “Lone Star Kids” program focuses on Title-I middle school students and brings them to word class performance spaces for Youth Winds concerts and LSWO concerts, all free of charge to students.

• Lone Star Youth Winds is an honors ensemble of 65 high school musicians from 22 area band programs. These students learn from professional musicians who guide them through a rigorous rehearsal schedule, ultimately performing in world-class performance halls.

Your generous gifts are vital to support and expand our educational programs through development efforts benefiting youth and expanding LSWO’s audience reach through curated, inclusive concert programming, marketing the value and quality of the orchestra to a growing audience, all to fortify LSWO’s presence in support of the North Texas Giving community.
