Junior Charity League of Dallas

A nonprofit organization

JUNIOR CHARITY LEAGUE
Organized in 1960, Junior Charity League (JCL) was first composed of approximately twenty daughters and daughters-in-law of Charity League members. From the beginning, Junior Charity League provided volunteers for Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (Scottish Rite). To this day, JCL members continue to serve at Scottish Rite and several other agencies throughout the Dallas area. JCL's first President, Peggy Hanley, while working for Parkland Hospital as a physical therapist, quickly recognized the unmet need for basic rehabilitation and therapy equipment by the patients there.
In 1970, Ms. Hanley approached the Physical Therapy Department at Parkland Hospital about JCL possibly raising money for the much-needed equipment that could make a huge difference in the Parkland Rehabilitation Unit patients' recovery and quality of life. That year, JCL hosted the first "Bingo Luncheon" benefiting the patients of the Parkland Rehabilitation Unit. The Benefit Luncheon is still held each spring and is JCL's primary fundraising activity.
As the Benefit Luncheon grew in popularity so did JCL and the organization expanded its membership and its mission to give back to the community. JCL incorporated in 1986 and has evolved into a strong group of seventy active and provisional members, plus many long-standing tenured members who contribute invaluable volunteer hours to the community.
The Parkland Rehabilitation Endowment Fund, established in 2007, uses the proceeds from the JCL Benefit Luncheon to purchase necessary therapy equipment for Parkland Rehabilitation patients allowing them to continue their rehabilitation and function more independently once they leave the hospital.
Since 1970, Junior Charity League has raised over $2.3 million to support the Parkland Rehabilitation Endowment Fund, the Parkland Rehabilitation Unit and its patients. Celebrating its 60th Anniversary in 2020, Junior Charity League continues to honor its commitment to the Parkland Rehabilitation Unit and to giving back to the Dallas area community.
