Forgiven Felons
Helping People with a past, realize their future.
The national recidivism rate (rate in which released inmates return to prison within 3-5 years) hovers around 77%. The state of Texas ranges from 40-50%. At Forgiven Felons, since our inception in 2007, and our opening of our transitional houses in 2012, we have served over 300 men and have an 8% recidivism rate. We feel that by using a practical and spiritual approach to reintegration, instead of just one or the other, we are making stronger and more productive citizens. Read our 2024 digital publication.
The House
Our transitional house in Dallas serves as a landing place for men coming out of prison, to get back on their feet. At the house, the men learn valuable life skills that help them when they transition to living on their own. We have house meetings and community meetings that serve as support systems for men, women, and families that have been impacted by our justice system.
Inside Prison
We travel the nation to prisons and jails, sharing our story of not letting our past define us. We've been to Texas, Alabama, Arkansas, Missouri, North Dakota, Florida and more to come. We hold services, go to cell to cell, and even visit death row.
The Podcast
Background Check Podcast is on over one million inmate tablets across the nation on various apps. We've seen and heard from so many inmates, through in phone calls, messages, and letters, the impact the podcast has, and the transformation it brings. Through stories they can relate to and information they can use and apply in prison, and when they get out, the podcast has become one of the most popular podcasts inside. T-shirts
We sell merchandise on our website, but we also sow a free tshirt into the lives of people getting out, all over the nation. We have our own shirt printing system in house. We give almost 30 shirts away each month to men and women coming out of prison. See pic in media section. Buy merch here
Forgiven Ranch
We were given 8 acres out in Navarro County to expand. In addition to raising our monthly budget for the rest of the year, $14K per month, we are trying to take the next two steps in developing the ranch. With the water meter paid for and installed, our next steps is to run the electric, and install the septic system..
The ranch will eventually house about 20 men in one and two bedroom tiny homes. The men will come from different places like prison, county jail, and rehab. These homes would be made by Champion Homes, which employs a lot of men that we serve. There'll also be a multipurpose building which will have office space, classroom, and shop space. Plans for animals, such as chickens and horses, are in the works too. See pic in media section. Watch the walk through video here
