Since 1999, Eden Outreach Has Been a Place for New Beginnings

Eden Outreach’s story began not with a building or a program, but with a burden to help people who had nowhere else to go. In 1999, Founder and Executive Director Agatha Odamah and her son began picking up individuals who needed shelter from the streets of Dallas. What started as a personal response to people in need soon became an organized mission.

In March 1999, Eden Outreach purchased a two-story facility in the South Dallas/Fair Park community. There, individuals experiencing homelessness could find overnight and short-term shelter, food, clothing, spiritual care, and something equally important: a place where they were welcomed with dignity.

That was the beginning of Eden Outreach.

More Than 27 Years of Opening Doors

Since 2000, Eden Outreach has continued and expanded its work to support men and women seeking recovery, housing, stability, and an opportunity to rebuild their lives. Over the years, individuals have come through our doors from homelessness, treatment programs, incarceration, financial hardship, substance use, and other difficult life transitions.

Some needed somewhere safe to sleep. Some needed a sober environment after treatment. Some needed help finding work and rebuilding financial stability. Some needed accountability, structure, spiritual encouragement, and people who believed they could build a different future.

Eden became a place where they could begin again.

Our approach has always recognized that lasting change involves the whole person. We provide a safe, sober, homelike, and structured environment while helping residents strengthen recovery, develop practical life skills, pursue employment and education, grow in personal responsibility, and prepare for greater independence.

We serve the whole person—spiritually, emotionally, and practically—by offering a safe, sober community where hope can grow and new beginnings can take root.

From the Streets to Stability

For more than 27 years, Eden Outreach has had the privilege of walking alongside men and women as they worked toward lives of greater stability and purpose.

Through the years, residents have had opportunities to:

• Strengthen and maintain their recovery.

• Move from homelessness toward stable housing.

• Find and maintain employment.

• Develop practical life and coping skills.

• Pursue education and career opportunities.

• Rebuild relationships and reconnect with family.

• Grow in responsibility and independence.

• Receive spiritual guidance and encouragement.

• Transition back into the community with greater stability.

These outcomes do not happen overnight. Recovery and rebuilding take time, structure, accountability, opportunity, and community. That is why Eden has remained committed not simply to providing a place to stay, but to helping create a pathway forward.

The Mission Is Still Needed

More than 27 years have passed since Agatha Odamah and her son first began picking up people who needed shelter from the streets. The circumstances surrounding our work have changed. Our programs have grown. Generations of residents have passed through our doors. But the heart of Eden has remained the same.

When someone needs a safe place to rebuild, we want a door to be open.

When someone is working to maintain sobriety, we want them surrounded by structure and support.

When someone is trying to find employment, rebuild stability, strengthen their faith, develop healthier habits, or prepare for independent living, we want them to know they do not have to make that journey alone.

And when someone begins to believe that their past has determined their future, we want Eden to remain a place where they can discover another possibility.
