Our Rapid Food Pantry Distribution Program, feeding hungry families directly from our food door, makes a substantial positive impact on our North Texas community. Individuals, families, seniors, veterans, the working poor, the homeless and now the newly unemployed all come to Community Food Bank.
Since COVID-19, newly unemployed folks call apologetically, inquiring what they need to do to get food. We remind them they have probably donated to American Red Cross, United Way, or any number of charity organizations through the years. Their past giving paved the way for them to receive help during their time of need; our process is fast and easy!
As a food bank, we support 32 food pantries with our free surplus food. It enables partner pantries to stretch their budget.
Hunger and poverty are not the only problems our clients suffer from. We are a caring operation which supports other programs such as, Transitional Homes, Senior Employment Rehabilitation - S.E.R., Labor Detail, and Community Service Restitution. Other programs we support are Texas Workforce - Career Steps and Unique Hour, Transition2Work, OSHA Certified Forklift Training, Willoughby House Juvenile Transitional Home. Select programs above actually pay volunteers to work here and get training!
We offer community referral services, community news, nutritional information and access to a computer for folks to obtain Food Handler License.
We are experiencing shortages of help with an increase in the number of families needing help. After COVID-19 we lost 45% of our volunteer base. To support our in-house operations, we still need to add a full-time employee to help compensate the loss of volunteers.
During this continuing pandemic year, the media is reporting there will be a shortage of turkeys for Thanksgiving. We have already started perusing ways to purchase traditional Thanksgiving food items. Supply chains to grocers continues to be interrupted. We will use funds generated from North Texas Giving Day to provide food for our hungry community in need.
Fighting hunger and poverty with food, education, programs, and resources to families in a dignified, personal, and timely manner without zip code restrictions. Our slogan is "Feeding Families, Feeding Hope!" We specialize in providing fresh and frozen meats, produce, dairy and dessert; good nutritious foods! "A Feeding Hope" allows us to freely give clients, adult and children diapers, wipes, hygiene products, appliances, furniture, etc. Collaborations with Good360, Hope Supply Company, Walmart Distribution Center, and others enable us to feed hope!
