More than 4,000 young people in Dallas are homeless. Living on the streets without food, clothing, a place to shower, study or sleep at night. Most of these pre-K to 21-year-olds drop out of school and are susceptible to addiction, unemployment, teen pregnancy and other setbacks. There are simply very few services for these youth – especially after 8pm. After8toEducate’s mission is to help this vulnerable population find refuge, support and meet their basic needs through its drop-in center in South Dallas, which is open 365 days a year from 8 AM to 9 PM, in partnership with Dallas ISD.
Since 2017, After8toEducate and more than 20 community partners and hundreds of volunteers, have supported and empowered hundreds of Dallas youth with warm meals, showers, laundry, case management and support services.

After8toEducate ("After8") is a first-of-its-kind public-private collaborative to support unsheltered youth in Dallas, bringing together community resources to reduce the number of young adults experiencing homelessness and foster self-sufficiency.
After8toEducate offers an umbrella solution to allow unsheltered youth to develop academically, emotionally, and socially to ultimately live healthy and productive lives. In collaboration with the Dallas Independent School District, After8 provides a three-pillar program at the Fannie C. Harris Youth Center. This program addresses the needs of high school students experiencing housing insecurity in DISD.
After8toEducate’s mission is to provide high school students experiencing homelessness with a pathway out of homelessness and poverty. We recognize that poverty and housing instability disproportionately impact communities of color, which is why we are committed to creating equitable opportunities and access to resources for the youth we serve. We intentionally seek collaborative partners, programs, and initiatives that reflect the experiences, needs, and backgrounds of our youth and strengthen their ability to achieve long-term stability and success.
