When I began my career as a fourth grade Teach for America teacher, I was moved by the generosity of friends and family who donated to help me purchase classroom supplies. Their support transformed a sterile, fluorescent-lit room (why, oh why, do we do that in schools?) into “Camp Kreher”—a space with cozy rugs, a tented reading nook, and flexible seating for students who needed to move while they learned. My students loved having a space that sparked creativity and it kept me sane during those long nights staying at school to grade and lesson plan.
But not every teacher starts with that kind of support.
United to Learn’s New Teacher Grant initiative is here to make sure that regardless of their support networks, all teachers have the resources they need to start the year strong and build joyful, student-centered learning environments from day one.
This fall, I’m raising support for five New Teacher Grants—and I’d love your help! A donation of any amount can help me reach my goal. And if you’re local, I’d also love to have you join me for one of the surprise classroom deliveries. It’s the best way to bring some joy to your workday!
